P&C

P&C stands for Parents and Citizens’ Association and is the forum for parents and citizens in government schools who have an interest in their children’s education. Our members comprise of parents and guardians of children attending Kent Street Senior High School, and community members including Kentians.

The Kent Street Senior High School Parents and Citizens Association Incorporated is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), is a member of the WA Council of State School Organisations Inc. (WACSSO), and is a member of Western Australian School Canteen Association (WASCA).

P&C Objectives & Membership

The objectives of the P&C association are to promote the interests of the school, or group of schools, through:

  • Cooperation between parents, teachers, students and members of the general community.
  • Assisting in the provision of resources, facilities and amenities for the school or group of schools; and
  • The fostering of community interest in educational matters.

Kent Street Senior High School P&C is governed by a constitution and rules. P&C membership is open to parents and guardians of children attending the school and to citizens being over the age of eighteen years who support the objects or purposes of the association. New members are welcome to join by simply turning up to meetings and paying the one-off membership contribution of 50 cents. Keep an eye on the school social pages for updates on P&C meetings/events and how you can get involved.

General Meetings

Are held twice a term. Historically, this has been week four and week eight of the school term starting at 6pm. Although this is subject to change so please check the school calendar or Facebook for possible changes.

Executive Meetings

In addition to the general running of the P&C, the P&C Executive are responsible for HR matters relating to the canteen staff. These matters are addressed at executive meetings and are not attended by general P&C members. Executive meetings are held when required.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM for the P&C is held annually in the 4th week of Term 1. During each AGM the following occurs:

  • All places on the Executive Committee are vacated at the AGM and a new committee voted in
  • Audited financials for the prior year are presented
  • Sub-committee budgets are voted on

School Canteen

The P&C are responsible for the management of the school canteen, in consultation with the school. A dedicated sub-committee works with the staff on a day to day basis to ensure we are providing healthy options for our students.

The P&C are members of the Western Australian Canteen Association (WASCA) and are guided by the School Endorsed Healthy Food and Drink Policy (HFD). All staff have current Food Safe training, have completed the Traffic Light Training, and have current Working with Children cards.

We welcome volunteers into the canteen at any time to assist with food preparation and service. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us for more information at the P&C email address pandc@kentstreetshs.wa.edu.au, or pop in and see our friendly staff.

Grants, Sponsors and Improvements

The P&C are continually looking for opportunities to help improve our wonderful school. We are always on the lookout for grants, sponsorships and in-kind donations. If you are aware of a suitable opportunity (either from the community or your workplace), we welcome you sharing this information with us. Let us know via the mailbox pandc@kentstreetshs.wa.edu.au

Here are some of the items the P&C has contributed to the school recently:

  • Two Viewsonic boards for use in classrooms
  • 10 Mature weeping peppermint trees and landscaping via a grant from the Town of Victoria Park
  • Additional equipment for the canteen to improve healthy options for students
  • A 3D Printer in the Aviation department,
  • Tents for Duke of Edinburgh, Outdoor Education and Science & Environment Students
  • Drama room updates
  • Interact group support
